Evening Dresses

Formality has a wide selection of Evening Dresses to suit all occasions ...

If you're going to a party or semi-formal get together then there is no better
on the Mornington Peninsula for Evening Dresses.
So whether you are going for a fun night out on the town, a wedding, a birthday
celebration or even a river cruise - our evening dresses are the height of chic
whilst not being over formal.

So What Is An Evening Dress?

A short answer might be that it is a less formal version of a Cocktail Dress or
even a Ball Gown … however it really is whatever you feel comfortable in if you
are going out for a special meal or celebration.

It’s ertainly not something you would wear every day but at the same time
comfortable enough for a family celebration or informal get together and could
make a great Christmas dress too.

Ball Gowns …

Formality’s finest selection …

If you're out to impress then look no further than our beautiful range of ball gowns.

Ball gowns are the most formal female attire for social occasions and … while not
strictly classified as evening wear, we have include them in this category.

According to rules of etiquette, a ball gown must be worn where "white tie" or
"evening dress" is specified on the invitation. It is traditionally a full-skirted
gown reaching to at least the ankles, that it be made of luxurious fabric, trimmed
delicately and exotically. Most versions are cut off-the-shoulder with decollete necklines.

Such gowns are typically worn with a stole (a formal shawl in expensive fabric),
cape or cloak in lieu of a coat, beautiful (couture or vintage) jewellery and often,
with opera-length gloves.

Standard accessories are dancing shoes and a clutch style evening bag.

Where "state decorations" are to be worn, they are on a bow pinned to the chest,
and married women would wear a tiara if they have one.

The ball-gown shape has changed very little since the mid-19th century.
